Twirled Squares
Quilt size: 56" x 70"

ZuZu Squares

That's a Swirl!
Quilt size: 37-1/2" square
This pattern uses applique and reverse applique to create swirl blocks that pop off of a contrasting background fabric. This pattern requires a lot of cutting but very little sewing! The swirl template fits on one 8-1/2" x 11" page for easy transferring onto fusible web. Also included is the bonus chocolate version because I thought these swirls looked so much like fancy chocolate truffles! Shown here in Michael Miller Fabrics' Boho Boutique collection.

Ebb & Flow
58" x 68"
I named this quilt Ebb & Flow because of how the two different blocks appear to weave in and out or back and forth like ocean waves. The sewing is simple, so this quilt assembles quickly. It's a great graphic and modern design. Shown here in Windham Fabrics' Gemstone prints.

Ribbon Weave

Quilt size: 37" square
Believe it or not, this idea started as a Snail's Trail as well, but then I made more changes to the block. I love interlocking designs, and this one is easier to make than it looks. It features four blocks around a center unit, and then a cool looking pieced border treatment that creates the illusion of overlapping. Shown here in Shelley Cavanna's Gloaming prints.

Rolling Waves

Quilt size: 48" square
This wave block is actually a variation of the Snail's Trail--it's all in the fabric placement! It's made using simple quick corners and other diagonal joins. Rolling Waves measures 48" square: Sixteen 12" square finished blocks. Make more blocks for a larger lap or bed quilt. Shown here in Benartex's All About Color prints. Try it in shades of blue solids for a true water look.

The perfect quilt for your favorite mathematician! This pattern combines easy piecing with applique to create a realistic looking lap-size calculator quilt! It'll keep you warm, but it won't solve math problems!

Quilt size: 57-1/2" x 76-1/2".
This pattern twists and turns to create the appearance of interwoven strips of fabric. It's actually made with quick corners and pieced strips, so it's easier than it looks! The designs is shown using Jackie Robinson's Wave Texture collection--beautiful textured tonals. Large 19" square blocks make a generously-sized throw by sewing just 12 blocks.

Quilt size: 36-1/2" x 48-1/2"
This wonky Log Cabin variation is a perfect introduction to improvisational piecing; just enough direction to give you confidence combined with the freedom to make it your own! If you're already familiar with improv piecing, you'll have fun using color placement to create spirals; if this is your first improv pieced project, don't worry! the directions and diagrams will walk you through it. Very little measuring necessary!
