Star Crossing QAL: Week 3 Extras
Today I'm sharing some advice on using directional fabric and sharing a video showing how to speed up making your flying geese units. If you're using directional fabric for your star tips and you care about them all facing the same way, keep reading! Otherwise scroll down to find the video.
The key to orienting your fabric correctly is to double check before doing any line drawing, sewing or cutting, though you can also just refer to the photos below and make sure yours match! :)
Align your first directional fabric square on the background piece. Fold the piece back, as if you've sewn it, and see if the stripes (we'll call them stripes, though yours may be different) are pointing the way you'd like. If so, draw your diagonal line and sew. If not, rotate your square 90 degrees and check again.
Tip: If you want your strips pointing up and down in each star point, you need the "stripe" to run horizontal as shown below.
Repeat on the second side. It's always best to double check your direction is correct again, just in case.
Finished stripe star blocks!
In the Week 3 post, I briefly described how to avoid marking all your squares with diagonal lines for making flying geese units. Here, I'll show you exactly how to do it.
Finished your small and medium stars? Have a question?
